A new Israeli brain catheterization technique was livestreamed from Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem to a Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) meeting in Washington, DC on Monday, September 15, which was attended by 12,000 medical professionals.
Dr. Yaron Almagor, Director of Interventional Cardiology in Shaare Zedek’s Jesselson Heart Center, implanted a state-of-the-art stent into the carotid artery of the patient, who was suffering from a life-threatening cranial arterial blockage. The carotid artery brings blood to the brain. The never before used stent uses a fine metal mesh sleeve to prevent tiny particles from passing through to the brain and causing a stroke.
Dr. Almagor explained, “This is a first which provides a solution to a problem. This new approach will completely change the treatments for carotid arteries and will minimize future complications.
